65 Years Ago—Aug. 6, 1945: Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima by B-29 Enola Gay, flown by Col. Paul Tibbetts Jr.; about 78,000 killed. Maj. Richard Bong, leading US fighter pilot ace (40 victories), is killed testing jet fighter in California.
I know it's a Hollywood production and probably not totally accurate, but there is a wonderful classic-era movie, called Above and Beyond, which depicts Paul Tibbetts' career, including the dropping of the bomb. Amazingly, the movie shows the crew praying before taking off on their mission...and in a Hollywood production (starring Robert Taylor and Eleanor Parker) they actually prayed in Jesus's name. Can you imagine a mainstream movie doing that today?
On another note, I just finished A Distant Melody, and I absolutely LOVED it!! I wept several times!! You wrote a fabulous novel.
Thank you, Patti! I'm glad you enjoyed Walt & Allie's story.
I haven't seen that movie, but I'll watch for it. I loooove old movies. Nowadays, the only people you'd see praying would be seen as villains :) I was really amazed doing research for these novels. On D-Day, the local newspaper printed a prayer on the front page! In California!
