UNDER HIS WINGS
The practice of free mail continued into Vietnam. I hope they still have it. It served us well in the combat zone. Nothing was more welcome than mail from home, especially "care packages." I confused my poor mother by asking her to use popcorn for packing material. After the first package, I requested salt. "You're eating it?" she wrote back. "Of course, it may be stale but it's the only snack food we get around her."
Jack - I hope they've continued the practice too! I love the popcorn story! Having a college boy who'll eat anything - including a mushed-up cake I sent for his first birthday away from home - I completely understand.
